Even for a small church, there are many ways in which you might choose to use your gifts, talents, energy, commitment and resources to add flavor and diversity to our church family. Whether you are a new member, a visitor, or have been with us since the beginning of our new church start, having an active faith community requires our collective efforts and commitment. THERE IS A PLACE FOR YOU AT Bluegrass UCC!

Liturgist: Each week, our liturgist leads the congregation in the call to worship and opening prayer. Additionally, the liturgist reads the morning scripture prior to the sermon. If you are comfortable reading in front of the congregation, this would be an excellent way to add your voice to our intentional diversity in worship.
Diaconate: Each week, our diaconate prepare and serve communion and clean up the sanctuary after morning worship. The church supplies the juice each week; one of the diaconate purchase and bring a small loaf of bread . The diaconate also stand at the entrance of the sanctuary and serve as ushers of sorts—greeting folks, handing out bulletins, and being helpful as needed with seating.
Audio/Video Technician: Our pastor and worship team tries very hard to include a variety of audio and video components as part of our Sunday worship experience,. This requires volunteers who are willing to learn the basics of our sound mixer and operate our Mac computer as we utilize keynote presentations/slides. Ideally, we would have 3-4 people who are willing to rotate this important role.
Worship recording/Editing/Upload to Youtube and Website: One of our most recent ministries is to record each worship service and make it available to members who have to miss church, members who have moved, or those who have heard about our church and want to know more about what to expect with our worship. Volunteering for this responsibility would require some technology knowledge and accessibility to computer, etc.
Children’s Church: Each week, our pastor leads a brief children’s sermon and then children leave for ‘kids time’—where adult volunteers teach children about the theme of the morning message, allow children to do a craft, sing, and just build relationships with one another. With our ‘safe church’ policy, we need two volunteers each week for a 20-25 minute period.
Nursery: Each week, we provide a nursery during worship. Nursery attendants remain in the nursery until 10 minutes after worship begins. If no child is present, then the attendant(s) join worship. However, the nursery is always available for feeding, changing, etc. Nursery is for infants-2 years of age. If you love babies, this would be a great opportunity to nurture our future UCCers.
NOTE: While we offer these weekly opportunities for children, they are always welcome in worship.
Hospitality Refreshments: Each week, volunteer(s) bring snacks and pastries to share after worship. This is an informal time to gather and get to know one another better.
Interior Cleaning: On a monthly basis, volunteers gather to detail clean the interior of our building: classrooms, restrooms, kitchen, fellowship areas, and our sanctuary. Sign-up sheets are available and announcements are made when these cleanings are scheduled.
Exterior/Landscape: There are multiple opportunities for volunteering to help maintain the exterior of our building and grounds. In the winter months, we have our parking lot and sidewalks cleared of snow; however, we do need volunteers to clear our ramps. In the Spring and Fall, we have planting and landscaping maintenance. In the Summer, we have general lawn care.
Outreach: One of the most important parts of our DNA is our heart for outreach. Throughout the year, we participate in various ways to give back to our community, to call for social justice, and to work side by side to give witness to God’s love. Look for opportunities to become involved. Weekly announcements and events posted on our website will keep you aware of what’s going on with outreach.
